About Luke

Luke Bamgboye joins Texas Tech for the 2025–26 season after a standout freshman campaign at VCU, where his elite rim protection quickly put him on the national radar. In 2024–25, he averaged 3.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game, leading the Atlantic 10 in blocked shots with 75 total blocks, ranking 2nd nationally among freshmen and 17th overall in blocks per game.

At VCU, his defensive impact was undeniable, earning recognition on the A10 All-Defensive Team, and he demonstrated high efficiency on offense, shooting nearly 60 percent from the field. With a 7 foot 2 wingspan, Bamgboye’s length makes him a consistent presence protecting the paint.

Off the court, he’s described himself as a hard worker and energy-giver, someone who will always play hard and bring the group together, aiming to be a breath of fresh air in the locker room and a teammate anyone can approach. His personal goals include adding strength and weight while refining his perimeter game, from mid-range shooting to playing through contact and improving playmaking.

A lifelong learner, Bamgboye models his game after Kevin Garnett and sees flashes of Pascal Siakam in his style, combining defensive intensity with growth potential on offense. He’s also a quick study off the court, cooking his mom’s recipes like katsu curry and wings, keeping in close contact with his trainer in Arizona, and embracing every opportunity to build relationships and improve during summer workouts.
