About Matt

Matt arrives at Texas Tech as one of the top JUCO catchers in the nation. A standout at Blinn College, he earned TX NM JCBCA All-Star honors and entered the 2024–25 season as a highly regarded two-way recruit for the Red Raiders.

During the 2024–25 campaign, Matt showcased elite hitting and plate discipline, posting a .411 batting average with a .511 on-base rate and .706 slugging percentage, placing him among national leaders in all three categories. His strong offensive performance helped anchor Blinn’s lineup.

A former Hart High standout in Sunland, his defensive skills behind the plate—strong glove work, blocking, and pitcher rapport—were highlighted by scouts during his high school days.

Matt’s combination of offensive prowess, defensive reliability, and leadership earned him recognition as a priority JUCO prospect. His commitment to Texas Tech was announced in November 2024.

Off the field, Matt brings a mature mindset and versatility to the team. His ability to handle pitchers, contribute offensively, and even play corner outfield gives Coach Tim Tadlock’s staff valuable flexibility. As he joins the Red Raiders, he’s poised to make an immediate impact both offensively and defensively.
