About Zane

Zane Petty has quickly carved out a key role in the Red Raiders’ pitching staff. During his freshman campaign in 2023, he made 11 starts and 14 appearances, leading all Texas Tech freshmen with 38 innings pitched and 32 strikeouts, including a strong outing in the NCAA regional in Gainesville.

He has continued to ascend through his sophomore and junior seasons. Despite battling injury in 2024, he returned to deliver impressive performances, including two scoreless innings against New Mexico and a seven-inning, nine-strikeout gem in 2025. In that outing, he carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and helped clinch a key win over BYU in the conference tournament.

A Corsicana High School standout, Zane was an All-State pitcher who struck out 147 batters over 88 innings in his senior year, posting a 0.95 ERA and earning 13th round draft selection by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2022.

Petty pairs a hard fastball with a swing-and-miss curveball and has improved consistency and control each season. He sits among the top right-handed arms in the Big 12 and continues to develop as a go-to starter or multi-inning reliever.

Off the mound, Zane majors in University Studies and cherishes family ties—son of Kevin and Tracy Petty, and older brother to Tatum and Reagan. He embraces being a leader in the clubhouse and exemplifies the blend of talent, resilience, and growth that defines the Red Raiders’ pitching culture.
