While born in Las Vegas, Nevada, Donovan Smith moved to Lubbock when he was a senior in high school. His first two years at Tech have been nothing short of impressive, with an increased number of starts this past season leading the Red Raiders to their first bowl game victory since 2013! He averaged 229.8 passing yards in games that he started, and in superman fashion, was responsible for 282 total yards and 2 touchdowns in the Liberty Bowl against Mississippi State. Donovan is incredibly active off the field, enjoying archery and fishing, as well as more creative outlets like cars, painting vintage Jordans, and working on projects with his hands. During football season, he roots for both the Los Angeles Chargers and the Las Vegas Raiders, and he can often be found getting his local Poke fix at Hawaiian Poke here in Lubbock.
Donovan prioritizes giving back to the Lubbock community that he cherishes, and is open to any and all businesses that are community-driven. But he wouldn’t turn down Chipotle, Vitality Bowls, or Panda Express, so that he can eat some of his favorite meals while working.
