It is no exaggeration to say that Tahj Brooks is one of the best running backs in the state of Texas, as well as the nation. After an incredibly successful high school career, Tahj was a coveted recruit for many colleges and universities. But he was destined to be Red Raider and chose Texas Tech for the close family atmosphere that exists between our coaches and athletes.

The decision has been a huge win all around. Brooks earned playing time at Tech as a true freshman, and has made an instant impact for the Red Raiders from the moment he set foot on the field. In his first season at Tech, he played in all 10 games, rushed for 255 yards, and scored four touchdowns. Despite being hit with an injury during his sophomore year, he topped his initial Red Raider season and more than doubled his total rushing yards, earning 568 for the year while appearing in nine out of 13 games. He also scored seven touchdowns, including this 41-yard run against Houston that will forever live in Red Raider history.

But Brooks reveals his true grit, character, and integrity just as much off the field as he does on it. While many student-athletes struggle to manage practice and school, Tahj is currently earning a double major in Sports Management and Business and has been named to the Academic All-Big 12 first and rookie teams. Brooks is known for his passion and his perseverance, but he also wants to use his name, image, and likeness to care for his Red Raider community. Without a doubt, Tahj Brooks has an incredible work ethic that will propel him far as a student, athlete, and Dark Horse Ambassador.
